Work packages

DCH-RP project is composed of 5 work packages:

WP1 - Project Management

WP Leader - Istituto Centrale per il Catalogo Unico delle biblioteche italiane e per le informazioni bibliografiche (ICCU)


Objectives:

  • To coordinate the activities of the project
  • To ensure timely and high quality deliverables
  • To stimulate and encourage all work-packages
  • To monitor and facilitate progress
  • To identify and overcome obstacles and issues before they delay or disrupt the project
  • To liaise as necessary with the Commission
  • To establish a coherent management framework able to ensure a continuity of operations, beyond the present DCH-RP project life-time, with the final aim to pave the way towards the implementation phase when the DCH-RP Roadmap will be put in place.

The Work package consist of 3 Tasks:

  • Task 1.1 Project kick-off (Task Leader: ICCU)
  • Task 1.2 Project reporting (Task leader: ICCU)
  • Task 1.3 Assessment of progress and results (Task Leader: Promoter)

 

WP2 — Dissemination and sustainability

WP Leader - Istituto Centrale per il Catalogo Unico delle biblioteche italiane e per le informazioni bibliografiche (ICCU)

WP2 will be build on the feedback received at the kick-off meeting and all the following information seminars and workshops organised by the project. WP2 will also disseminate the results achieved by the Proof of Concept run in WP5.


Objectives:

  • To make the information gathered by the project available to the widest possible audience
  • To encourage DCH actors, including cultural ministries and agencies, to engage with e-Infrastructures and to examine the delivery of preservation services
  • To support these objectives by creating and delivering dissemination supports such as project website and brochures
  • To organise one final international conference to present the project results to the public
  • To coordinate the participation of the partners in third parties events to promote the DCH-RP project
  • To develop the sustainability strategy for the preservation infrastructure for DCH
  • To put in place mechanisms and contacts for consulting with stakeholders
  • To create a network of common interest and to contribute to the ongoing process of building the DCH research community

The Work package consist of 4 Tasks:

  • T2.2 Sustainability, community building and stakeholders consultation (Task leader: ICCU)
  • T2.3 Dissemination plan and promotional material (Task Leader: ICCU)
  • T2.4 Final Conference (Task Leader: ICCU)

 

WP3 Preservation RoadMap

WP Leader — Riksarkivet (RA)


Objectives:

  • To identify key characteristics and requirements for a preservation Roadmap for DCH
  • To develop a registry of services and tools
  • To investigate how Infrastructure as a Service can contribute to digital preservation services for DCH
  • To design and validate the preservation Roadmap for DCH
  • To explore the state of the art in cultural heritage and e-Infrastructure, and interoperability principles for digital preservation in order to inform the two communities about their other’s practice
  • To consider how standards and interoperability principles can be adopted by the cultural heritage and e-Infrastructure communities in order to maximise their potential benefits.

This work package will design a Roadmap for preservation in DCH, with a special efforts in the following areas:

  • Building a registry of tools of services used by the stakeholder community
  • Investigating how Infrastructure as a Service can contribute to digital preservation and related infrastructure activities and services for DCH
  • Identifying and reporting on the emerging and established standards with a fairly large numbers of users in the digital cultural heritage and e-Infrastructure communities

The Work package consist of 5 Tasks:

  • Task 3.1 Preservation services architecture (Task leader: RA)
  • Task 3.2 Standards and interoperability (Task leader: CT)
  • Task 3.3 Registry of services and tools (Task leader: PSNC)
  • Task 3.4: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)(Task leader: NIIFI)
  • Task 3.5 Designing a preservation infrastructure for DCH (Task leader: RA)

 

WP4 - Case Studies and Best Practice

WP Leader —Belgian Federal Science Policy Office (BELSPO)


Objectives:

The general objective of WP4 is to support the validation of the results of WP3 through a range of tasks interacting with the DCH community. The same community will be addressed by WP2 as the target audience of the project dissemination. In WP4, representatives of the target community will interact through questionnaires, interviews, participation to workshops and more in general through the project website.

The Work package consist of 4 Tasks:

  • Task 4.1 Trust building (Task leader: RA)
  • Task 4.2 Engagement with commercial publishers (Task Leader: EDItEUR)
  • Task 4.3 e-Infrastructure Concertation workshop (Task leader: EVKM)
  • Task 4.4 International Cooperation (Task leader: INFN)

 

WP5 - Proofs of concept

WP Leader — European Grid Initiative (EGI.eu)


Objectives:

WP5 aims to proof in concrete experiments the concepts established by WP3.
Two proofs will be carried out in corrispondence of deliverable D3.1 and D3.2
The results of the proofs will inform the evolution of the Roadmap design.
The execution of the proofs of concept will be based on the re-use of the eCulture Science Gateway produced by INDICATE.
INFN agreed to upgrade the service with the upload function that will enable the content providers to store their data.

6 pilot sites for the proof of concepts are foreseen in Europe, under the lead of EGI.eu:

  • Italy with e-infrastructure facilities provided by INFN and data provided by ICCU
  • Poland with e-infrastructure facilities and data provided by PSNC
  • Hungary with e-infrastructure facilities provided by NIIFI and data provided by Hungarian cultural institutions that will cooperate with NIIFI
  • Sweden, Belgium and Estonia, with e-infrastructure facilities provided by the NGI exploiting the Memorandum of Understanding signed in the frame of DC-NET and data provided by the DCH-RP partners.

The Work package consist of 4 Tasks:

  • Task 5.1 - Technical planning of the first run of proof of concept (Task Leader: EGI.eu)
  • Task 5.2 - Upgrade of the eCulture Science Gateway (Task Leader: INFN)
  • Task 5.3 - First proof of concept (Task Leader: EGI.eu)
  • Task 5.4 - Second proof of concept (Task leader: EGI.eu)
