The DCH-RP Roadmap will be featured at the CIDOC Conference 2014, which will be held in Dresden, Germany, on September 6-11.

A paper will be presented about DCH-RP on Tuesday 9th September 2014, during Session G/1 – Digital Long Term Preservation. The main aims of the paper are to:

Make CIDOC Conference participants aware contents of the Roadmap;

Give participants an opportunity to give feedback about the Roadmap;

Seek support for the Roadmap.

There will be also opportunities to discuss the paper in other group sessions. The paper itself will be published in the conference proceedings.

About DCH-RP
Digital Cultural Heritage Roadmap for Preservation (DCH-RP) is a project supported by EC FP7 e-Infrastructures Programme. It seeks to look at best practice for preservation standards in use, and has created a "roadmap" which will give a way forward for the sector.
The Roadmap is built on two basic assumptions:

Existing e-Infrastructures for research and academia are also efficient channels for the delivery of advanced services to be used by the digital cultural heritage sector for distributed digital preservation;

It is possible to establish common policies, processes and protocols which will allow digital DCH organisations to access e-Infrastructures.

http://dchrp.eu/index.php?en/70/events-archive/57/egi-cf-2014-workshop-e-infrastructure-and-services-for-data-preservation-and-curation

The workshop “E-infrastructure and services for data preservation and curation” will be held on 20th May in Helsinki within the EGI Community Forum 2014.

Over recent years, e-Infrastructures and DCH communities have established a dialogue and now several data-infrastructure projects exist, whose results can be adapted and re-used in the DCH domain. In particular, fruitful cooperation has started among these projects to test the services and tools developed to facilitate the storage, access and preservation of digital data and to provide feedback for the further improvement of such services.

The purposes of this workshop are:

To present the common registry of services and tools which is being developed jointly by DCH-RP & APARSEN and to discuss how to sustain it after the end of the project. The registry will contain descriptions of common user scenarios as well as information about the tools that may be used to implement them. In addition it will support searching the tools database using several criteria and it will also provide assessments and reviews of the most relevant tools. The aim of the registry is to help a broad range of DCH communities, institutions and projects to plan implementation of their digital preservation processes and to understand commonly available options by offering them integrated information from both projects.

To present the first results of the Proofs of Concept that have been conducted within DCH-RP, where e-infrastructure providers and cultural institution work together to test services and e-infrastructures to store and manage cultural digital resources.

To present the interim version of the roadmap for the long-term preservation of digital cultural content, which aims to help policy makers and programme owners to plan ahead and assist managerial teams of cultural institutions in taking decisions related to digital preservation and to support cultural heritage institutions in defining practical action plans with realistic timeframes for their implementation.

To attract new projects and initiatives working in the domain of DCH, e-infrastructures and digital preservation to find synergies and discuss opportunities for cooperation, starting from concrete use cases.

In the framework of the Joint Conference on Digital Libraries (JCDL) and the International Conference on Theory and Practice of Digital Libraries (TPDL) the APARSEN and SCAPE projects will co-organize a workshop with the title
'Digital preservation sustainability on the EU policy level', where DCH-RP will has a stall.

Date
8th September 2014, from 13:00 to 17:00

Venue
City University - London, United Kingdom

Registration
Click here to register for the workshop. They can accommodate a total of 100 participants.
The workshop is free of charge. It is not necessary to register for the DL2014 conference in order to attend this workshop.

Workshop objectives
The main objective of the workshop is to provide an overview of solutions to challenges within Digital Preservation Sustainability developed by current and past Digital Preservation research projects. The event brings together various EU projects/initiatives to present their solutions and approaches, and to find synergies between them. A special focus will lie on SCAPE (Scalable Preservation Environments), which will have its final project presentation at this event.

The workshop co-organised by the FP7 projects SCAPE and APARSEN covers a wide spectrum of fields of expertise which are related to Sustainability and Digital Preservation.
The workshop consists of two parts: 1) a panel discussion, and 2) a clinic.

In the opening panel session three experts from SCAPE, APARSEN and OPF will discuss the current status of Digital Preservation Sustainability on EU policy level. The aim of the panel discussion is to present, discuss, and evaluate main results of the projects and initiatives and how these will be sustained after the end of the projects. The attendees will have the opportunity to bring in their own questions related to Sustainability and Digital Preservation.
After the panel discussion the attendees can visit stalls run by invited Digital Preservation projects, where they can get information about the projects. Each project/initiative will run a stall and present their view on Digital Preservation sustainability in their particular field. In this “clinic” the projects / initiatives will act as ‘doctors’, so the visiting audience can discuss their preservation issues and get advice from experts.

As part of the workshop SCAPE will make its final, overall presentation, where the attendees have the possibility to meet many of the developers. The project team will present tools and services developed since the start of the project in 2011.
A special focus will lie on newly and further developed open source tools for scalable preservation actions; SCAPE’s scalable platform architecture; and its policy-based Planning and Watch solutions.
