IFLA 2014

The Congress IFLA WLIC 2014 will be held in Lyon, France, from 16-22 August 2014.

The Congress theme is: "Libraries, Citizens, Societies: Confluence for Knowledge"
The content of the IFLA Conference Programme is organised by different professional groups (Sections, Core Programmes and Special Interest Groups).

We want to highlight the following calls for papers:

Information Technology Section
(Just closed on 9th February)
Papers presenting innovative projects, experience, initiatives or services with a strong collaborative cross-border or international dimension would also be appreciated.
Theme: Cloud services for libraries - safety, security and flexibility
Papers should reflect the conference theme, "Libraries, Citizens, and Societies: Confluence for Knowledge".

Cloud services are transforming the way libraries house, deliver, and manage technology provided to their patrons. They are seeking papers that expand on the experience, possibilities, and emerging practice in managing cloud services, including, but not limited to:

• Cloud case studies - especially those addressing long-term management issues
• Methods of risk mitigation
• Use of multiple cloud providers to reduce outage risk
• Distributed backups and harvesting systems for cloud
• Offshore vs. Local issues
• Avoiding "lock-in" with specific cloud providers
• Data encryption vs. use of private clouds

Calls for Papers for Satellite Meetings

Library Buildings and Equipment Section with Acquisition and Collection Development Section
(Just closed on 14th February)
Theme: Space and collections earning their keep: Transformation, technologies, retooling
Library buildings and their interior spaces should be closely related to their functions. Traditionally they have served as book and journal storage spaces offering access to diverse physical collections. Today, following numerous social and technological changes, libraries need to retool their services. Physical as well as digital collections have to "cohabit" within a building. The transformation in information technology had had an enormous impact on users' research behaviour which in turn demands new discovery environments. Access and use of media have to be organized according to the manifold needs of users and with regard to the opportunities of mobile technology.
The Library Buildings & Equipment Standing Committee and the Acquisition and Collection Development Standing Committee are looking for papers that highlight how public, academic and research communities in different regions of the world provide high quality, adaptable and innovative library spaces meeting the needs of different users.
